This months job of the month takes us to sunny Hainault in the London borough of Redbridge, Well the client had a couple of sheds in the back garden and wanted to recover them, we come up with a low priced epdm solution as he was not very keen on re surfacing the sheds in the felt. we used a 1.2 membrane instead of the thicker 1.6mm to keep the cost down and although the membrane works out slightly more expensive compared to the felt it is less labour intensified (I laid the 2 roofs on my own 31 square metres in total in around 7 hours)so saved on the labour costs associated with the installation.
the work entailed stripping the old roof off and then checking for damage to the roof deckings and making good. the roof epdm is factory cut to size before installation and is then adhered to the substrate decking with a feild glue. it is laid with an applicator pushing any air bubbles out and to all good adhesion. the perimeter edges are fitted up with a nice neat trim that goes round the perimeter of the building giving the roof a nice modern clean looking edge.
these roofs have a life expectancy of 40 years plus and are highly elastic giving great tolerances to movement in the buildings.
we have been fitting Epdm since the year 2002 when we become a prelasti (pirelli tyres sister company) licensed installer which is installed a lot on commercial buildings and sites across the uk. more recently we have become installers of Firestones rubber cover system alongside
Prelasti. and not forgetting all the other types offlat roofing systems that we do
